Amniotic Stem Cell & Laser Therapies

Amniotic Stem Cell Therapy

Stem cells are the fundamental cells in our bodies, which can become many types of tissue, including skin, tendon, muscle, bone, and cartilage.

The amniotic stem cell injections Dr. Sheff utilizes are harvested from the amniotic sac, and not from an embryo. Although some may have ethical concerns about the use of embryonic stem cell therapy, the use of amniotic stem cell therapy should not raise any ethical or moral questions. They are harvested from the placenta after an elective cesarean section with the mother's full knowledge and with no harm to the baby. All amniotic stem cell donors go through a rigorous screening process, as determined by the Food and Drug Administration and American Association of Tissue Banks.

How Does Amniotic Stem Cell Therapy Work?

The human body's cells have the capability to repair themselves. Stem cells take advantage of this ability by creating cells that the damaged tissues need in order to heal. With amniotic stem cell therapy, Dr. Sheff injects stem cells from amniotic tissues into the affected part of your foot under ultrasound guidance. The cells have anti-inflammatory properties like cortisone and steroid injections. However, stem cell therapy has no side effects and is entirely safe. Furthermore, cortisone and other drugs may only provide temporary relief, whereas stem cell therapy will restore damaged tissue along with providing pain relief. Additionally, stem cell injections contain hyaluronic acid, which lubricates joints and tendons, helps restore mobility, and reduces pain.

Amniotic stem cell injections contain no steroids, are extremely safe and effective and have been used by eye doctors and plastic surgeons for about twenty years. There is no risk of patient rejection, and more than 10,000 injections have been performed without a single reported adverse side effect. The vast majority of the time, only one injection is required.

Who Is A Candidate For Amniotic Stem Cell Therapy?

Patients suffering from any joint, tendon, or ligament pain, can be considered a candidate for this therapy regardless of any underlying health issues they may have. Stem cell therapy is a non-surgical alternative for those who suffer from pain. Surgeries can be painful and require extended rehabilitation time. Stem cell therapy allows the body to heal itself by providing building blocks that stimulate the body's natural healing processes. Patients with severe degenerative osteoarthritis may not be eligible for stem cell therapy.

Will my insurance cover it?

Presently, amniotic stem cell therapy is not a covered service. Insurance companies will cover the fee for the administration, which is performed in the office under ultrasound guidance. However, the cost of the stem cells themselves is not included. Our staff can discuss the price in more detail in our office.

Laser Therapy

At Newport Family Foot Care, Dr. Sheff utilizes the most up to date cutting edge technology with the use of a class IV MLS laser. This laser has been in use in Europe for nearly two decades and has recently found its way here in America. Initially used by Veterinarians, this FDA approved laser is now widely used by physicians for a multitude of ailments. Dr. Sheff utilizes this laser for many foot problems, including heel pain, arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, sprains & strains, swelling following surgery or an injury, broken bones, neuromas, poor circulation, and Diabetic Neuropathy.

The average number of treatments needed is six to eight, with each treatment taking seven minutes. The vast majority of people receiving the treatment report relief in pain immediately following their very first treatment, with an overall success rate approaching 90% for most conditions.

There is no pain during the treatment, in fact, while receiving the treatment, one does not feel anything at all. What makes the MLS laser special is that it works on two separate frequencies simultaneously. Unlike many other lasers, this laser does not generate heat and can be used safely on anyone regardless of their underlying health.

Since the laser speeds up the body's metabolic processes, it can not be used on children as it would alter their bone growth.

The laser can safely be used on pregnant individuals.
