CUSTOM ORTHOTICS

Custom OrthoTics

Utilizing the most up-to-date computer technology, our office can digitally map your foot structure which provides a perfect replica of your feet for our orthotics lab.  A pair of custom orthotics is then fabricated for you with this information along with several measurements and recordings that Dr. Sheff takes of your feet.

About Orthotics

Your feet have a direct impact on the rest of your body. Like the foundation of a house, your feet support the weight of everything above them. When a small problem develops in your feet, the subtle change in the way you walk can cause a chain reaction of adjustments in your posture and walking mechanics. These changes can put stress on joints higher up in your body and lead to more severe problems. Orthotics help rebalance your feet, reduce pain and discomfort by enhancing your body's natural movements.

Prescriptive orthotics look like innersoles but are biomechanical medical appliances. These orthotics are custom made to correct your specific imbalance. Orthotics work on your feet, much like eyeglasses work on your eyes — they reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. Orthotics fit into your shoes as comfortably as an insole, and they have the advantage of having been made from a precise model of your feet.

Properly made orthotics are custom made to support the requirements of your feet. They help restore the healthy balance and alignment of your body by gently correcting foot abnormalities.

How Are Orthotics Made?

At Newport Family Foot Care, Dr. Sheff utilizes the most up-to-date digital mapping to fashion your custom orthotics:
  1. Dr. Sheff will have you seated with your feet elevated.  With the use of an iPad fitted with a special sensor he will digitally map your feet, producing a three dimensional model of your lower extremities.
  2. This model is then transmitted to our orthotics lab along with information about you including your specific foot problem, your weight and shoe size.
  3. Our orthotic lab then manufactures your custom orthotics in a timely fashion.
